Founded in 2004 by Stephan Johnstone, SJD World offers innovative and artistic services in print, web design, and product development. Their top services include branding kits (such as logos, business cards, and letterheads), brochures, magazines, annual reports, booklets, flyers/posters, large banners, album art, packaging design and small to medium size websites. Over the years, the company has also produced in-house products including books, albums and clothing.
While great design is always their goal, SJD World prides itself on customer service and making every client feel like they are top priority, while delivering in an efficient and effective manner. During the creative process, SJD World believe in an honest, personal, and open dialogue with clients that creates an environment where everyone feels comfortable sharing their thoughts and feelings on each project.
Unlike its competitors, SJD World focuses solely on graphic design and acts as a “plug-and-play” design department. Working with both local and overseas marketing, PR and design firms and corporations, the company handles overflow work or acts as their personal “in-house” team.
As a measure of SJD World’s success, the company has won The Bermudian magazine’s Product & Service Award for Best Local Graphic Designer in 2014 and 2015. 99% of the company’s work comes through referrals and they have never advertised, outside of the Yellow Pages.
Some of Johnstone’s favourite work includes the new logo and visitor’s package for Grotto Bay Beach Resort, as well as the Trumpet artwork for the Corporation of Hamilton’s City Music & Jazz Festival. Most recently, they have worked with Ras Mykkal designing his newly released book, Bermuda’s Flying Flowers.
Working with between one and five freelance designers and programmers at any given time, Johnstone looks for self-motivated, creative, deadline driven, and unique individuals when looking to take on new hires. This allows him to maintain a range of freelancers whose strengths compliment the rest of the team. SJD World’s top freelance designer, Anna Terceira, has been working with the company for the past six years, while top freelance programmer, Prasanth Govindankutty has been working with the company for five years.
Today their creative headquarters is located in the heart of Hamilton at 15 Front Street, where they are creating unique material for a wide range of clients both big and small.
