Good Day World,

A lot has been happening since our last newsletter in September. We’ve been navigating some team changes, staying incredibly busy with client work, and are now gearing up for the release of our follow-up film project, Decoding Thoughts, coming this Boxing Day.

This newsletter is a bit shorter than usual, we wanted to share a quick update before the holidays and keep you in the loop on everything SJD.

Check out the updates below and we wish you a happy holiday season.

For those who may not know our history, SJD World was built in Devil’s Hole, Bermuda, so we’re proud to be a sponsor of the neighbourhood football team, X-Road Warriors, this season. Catch our logo on their jerseys, and be sure to support the team by grabbing your own gear from their shop!

We are currently looking to bring a Website Support Specialist onto our team. This is a part-time, in-house role based at our Hamilton studio, with the potential to evolve into a full-time position as the role and company grow. The position focuses on supporting and maintaining client websites—primarily on WordPress—including updates, bug fixes, hosting support, and ongoing maintenance. If you’re technically minded, organized, enjoy problem-solving, and want to work in a creative studio environment, we’d love to hear from you. For full details and to apply click the button below. Application process ends February 1st 2026.

As part of the ongoing conversation around Thoughts Become Things, we have partnered with local online news outlet The Daily Hour for a special interview series highlighting voices behind and around the film. The four interviews are now live, featuring director Marq Rodriguez, Mike Simmons of Donquili, who portrays the African ancestors in the film, Irwin Trott, founder of the Warwick Gombeys and Chelsea McNorton of the St. David’s Islander and Native Community. Each conversation offers a unique perspective, from the creative vision behind the camera to the deep cultural roots and living legacy of the Gombey tradition.

Decoding Thoughts is a behind-the-scenes mini-documentary that offers a deeper look into the creation and cultural significance of the award-winning short film Thoughts Become Things. The film follows the mystical journey of a young Gombey who meets his ancestors in a dream—blending poetry, tradition, and ancestral wisdom into a powerful cinematic experience. Since its debut, Thoughts Become Things has screened in 19 film festivals across 11 countries and won 10 international awards, shining a global spotlight on Bermuda’s heritage and creative voice.

In Decoding Thoughts, we go beyond the screen to explore how this story came to life. Through interviews with the creative team, local culture-bearers, Gombey captains, and artists involved in the production, the documentary reveals the intentions, influences, and historical context behind the visuals, music, and message.
