Good Day World,
It’s hard to believe another year has already passed. As we move into SJD World’s 22nd year, we look back with a great sense of pride at everything we accomplished in 2025. From sponsoring the X-Roads Football Team and seeing our logo on their jerseys, to winning an international design award, welcoming Yasmeen to the team, and celebrating Anna’s 15 years with the company, it’s been a year full of meaningful milestones. Alongside all of this, we continued to see the growth and global reach of our short film project, Thoughts Become Things.

In this newsletter we highlight just a few of the projects, collaborations, and initiatives we were involved in over the past year. As always, a big thank you to everyone who has supported us along the way. We have some exciting new projects coming soon and cannot wait to share what’s next.

We officially welcomed Yasmeen “Jaz” Codrington-Edmead to the SJD World team as our Project Manager and Admin Support.

A Bermuda College graduate, Jaz brings experience across nonprofit and creative environments, helping bring clarity, structure, and organization to the team so we can stay focused on our creative work…

We are proud to have worked with the Bermuda Arts Council to design two meaningful emblems.

Over the past year, Thoughts Become Things continued to grow far beyond its origins as a short film. What began as a poetic exploration of Bermudian identity, ancestry, and the Gombey tradition evolved into a global cultural journey. The film was selected by 19 international film festivals, screened publicly 21 times across 11 countries, won 10 awards, and was subtitled into four languages, allowing Bermudian culture to reach audiences far beyond our shores. Along the way, the project expanded to include an original soundtrack, a behind-the-scenes mini documentary titled Decoding Thoughts, and a series of community screenings, interviews, and cultural conversations both locally and internationally.

Now entering its legacy phase, the project stands as one of our most meaningful cultural contributions, encompassing film, music, and community engagement. It honors where we come from while opening new paths for creative storytelling rooted in Bermudian culture.

Thoughts Become Things follows a young Bermudian Gombey on a dreamlike journey to meet his ancestors. The film traveled across 11 countries, carrying Bermudian culture to audiences around the world.

The official audio extension of the award-winning short film, this soundtrack, produced by Derek G., features special performances that expand and echo the film’s core themes.

Decoding Thoughts takes viewers behind the scenes of Thoughts Become Things, unpacking its cultural importance through interviews with the team, cast, and Gombey captains.

Our first film review, written by Dejon Simmons, offers a thoughtful reflection on the philosophy, artistry, and cultural significance of Thoughts Become Things.

The final public screening before the film’s YouTube premiere, accompanied by a live performance from Donquili Bermuda.

The project is still moving forward. Learn what is next and how you can help support its continued journey.
